Description
The D-55 model was first introduced as a special order, top shelf offering by the Guild guitar company. By 1974, the model saw such popularity as an alternative to comparable Martin dreadnoughts that it was added to regular production.
The current incarnation is perhaps the most anticipated revival of a Guild flat-top guitar to date. The current D-55 sees all the appointments and material choices the vintage instrument was adorned with including a select AAA Sitka Spruce Top, Solid Indian Rosewood back and sides, a dark Ebony fingerboard and bridge and a beautifully thin, high gloss nitrocellulose finish.
The internal bracing of the instrument is made from hand scalloped Adirondack and the dovetail neck-joint is hand fit to ensure perfect geometry.
The historic ‘Peak and Shield’ headstock sees beautiful multi-ply binding while the fingerboard of the dreadnought sees hand laid abalone pearl ‘V-Blocks’ with stunning bound purfling to the edges of the board.
The tone of the instrument is magical. Rich with complex harmonic overtones but with enough sculpted out of the mid-range to ensure the lush Rosewood tonality is not overpowered and muddy. A rich tonality with three dimensionality, something typically reserved for Brazilian Rosewood instruments. A true triumph of modern Indian Rosewood guitar lutherie!
This guitar comes ready for the stage with a factory fitted LR Baggs Anthem pickup system. Includes a premium, vintage style humidified Guild Hardcase.
