Arguably the holy grail of Les Paul Specials, this 1962 example is an original 'TV Yellow' finished instrument featuring a Honduran mahogany body and neck, bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard with pearl dot inlays, wraparound tailpiece, twin P90 single coil pickups, independent volume and tone controls for each pickup, 3-ply beveled pickguard, 3-in-line Kluson tuners with ivoroid buttons, and a non-original late '60s/early '70s case.
This example is surely one of the last to be produced in that the serial number dates to 1962 (Gibson had shifted to the 'SG' body shape in the Special by this stage), but also has pots dating to 1959 and a 60s Slim Taper neck profile.
Condition is excellent for the age with only minimal playwear and a few minor finish dings about the body. Frets are original and in very good shape, the neck profile has a beautiful slim '60s feel which makes for fast, comfortable playability. Sonically this guitar is one of the best sounding p90 equipped guitars we've had through the store, exhibiting both chimey clean tones to a sparkly, gritty overdriven snarl when pushed through a tube amp.
