In a strange syncronicity we have a handful of Ryoji Matsuoka guitars in the shop at the moment.
These were made in Japan by luthier Ryoji and his family.
This one from 1978 has been well looked after and has mellowed into a warm and very nice sounding guitar.
The top is solid cedar and the sides and back rosewood. The back and sides are not a laminate as we know it today, they were constructed using 2 layers of solid wood glued together with natural resins. These 'double-plates' were considered to sound as good as solid woods but less likely to crack.
Lovely guitar, easy going, creative and looking for a new home.
