A rare 12-fret, slotted headstock dreadnought sized offering from Martin! First introduced in the early 1930s, the 'S' series dreadnought guitars from Martin have seen very little alteration in their specification since. Fingerstyle players should enjoy this instrument as it is one of the few production models which retain a full width 1 3/4" nut!
To our ears, the sloped shoulders on the 'S' series guitars tend to tame the often aggressive and boomy low-end a dreadnought often has. This reclaimed space in the tonal spectrum allows for the rich midrange of the instrument to shine, again favouring dynamic players and adding to the versatility of the instrument.
This particular model was crafted in 1979 and is very original. No overspray or repairs. Original 'Pat Pend' Grover tuners. Slotted headstock with Martin decal. Post-1965 '18 Style' aesthetic appointments including a sleek solid black pickguard, black body binding with and a 5 ply rosette. Good neck angle and very comfortable action.
All in all a highly captivating vintage '18' style Martin perfect for the player or collector.
