The don't come much nicer than this. Historically considered Gibson's response to the fabled Martin D-28. Some beautiful details here; the vintage post-banner style of this Advanced Jumbo includes the early Gibson script logo, firestripe pickguard, bound rosewood fretboard, a resonant spruce top (with gorgeous amber tint) that has opened up wonderfully with age and playing. This is the first re-issue Gibson has done of the AJ and is also a desirable mid 90s Montana build.
The guitar has some of the most intricate lacquer checking patterns we've seen which completes the vintage look and feel (note the headstock/top photos), and the tonewoods (spruce top, rosewood back and sides) are of particular note for their quality and appearance.
Tonally this guitar can only be described as balanced; it has a clear, sculpted bass with a throaty (but not honky or overpowering) midrange which project clearly, and the slope shoulder profile and longer scale length gives this a totally different sonic palate than similar Gibson offerings (Hummingbird/Dove etc).
The guitar has just had a full service by renowned luthier Daniel Hoban which saw the bridge saddle reshaped and the guitar strung with Martin Retro Monel strings. Comes with a very cool brown / sheep skin hard shell case!
