A lovely Les Paul Standard from the mid 1980s. Exceptionally uncommon model. Custom Colour 'Ferrari Red' finish. This finish was seen on a select batch of Studio, Standards and Customs; the Standards such as this one being the rarest of the 3. Aesthetically the instrument is in very good condition. Natural checking and crazing of the finish gives this Les Paul an authentic vintage feel. The clear topcoat of the lacquer has yellowed giving the binding a yellow appearance and a richness to the red lacquer. A slither of finish near the neck heel (where the neck meets the body on the bass side) has lifted to reveal the white undercoat. The original 'stickered' pickup rings have cracked and have been replaced by an aged set of Gibson 'Historic' rings (the originals are included with the sale). Older pro refret. No breaks, overspray or structural issues. These instruments built at the tail end of the 'Norlin' era and some of the first traditionally spec'd out Les Pauls to come out of Gibson since Norlin acquired the company. Mahogany body and neck with a solid maple cap. A pair of Tim Shaw PAF pickups. A very collectible and unique Les Paul. Includes original brown Gibson hardcase, Made in USA, serial number 81615523.
