Description

Great version of the Desert Island amplifier, the Fender Deluxe Reverb.

Just back from a service, running beautifully.

Fully serviced by The Tone Lab.

Here is what tech Tim Occleshaw said about it:

"This amp is in great condition for its age. The valves bar one appear to be all original – RCA preamp valves and rectifier, and the black glass 6V6s are possibly also RCAs (logo has worn off). The 12AT7 is a newer replacement JJ. Its power transformer, choke and reverb transformer all date from late 1970 and the output transformer was made in 1969. The speaker is the original Oxford, with a date code of the 47thth week of 1970.

This amp was most likely assembled in early 1971 (or very late 1970), and is the AB868 circuit. This circuit is almost identical to the classic AB763 ‘Blackface’ Deluxe Reverb. The few differences, in my view, are not audible.

I have replaced all electrolytic capacitors, and have also replaced the Schumacher US voltage power transformer with a Hammond 290BEX (identical specification except 240v mains supply). All internal voltages are within 5% of the Fender schematic values. It now has an Australian power lead, and I’ve replaced the original 2 amp fuse with a 1 amp (for 240v use, as per Fender’s export model schematic). The ‘courtesy’ US power outlet and ground switch on the back are now inactive, and the ‘death capacitor’ is removed.

The output valves are biased at a moderate 60%."
