How long will it take?

Standard service turn-around is generally within 5 business days. Major and structural repairs, re-frets, finish work etc. takes longer. You'll be given an estimate when you drop in. We'll do our best to get your instrument(s) back to you ASAP!

No appointment is necessary, come in and have a chin wag to Rick, Matt, Darcy, Jeff or Ben. Tuesday - Saturday.

BASIC RE-STRING — Starts at $45* + price of strings

• $45 for acoustic, electric and bass guitars
• $55 for classical and 12 string guitars
• $65 for Floyd/Kahler/Evertune

Service includes:

• Restring and tune the instrument with your chosen gauge
• Adjust neck relief and other minor tweaks as needed

For more than this, you'll need a ...

STANDARD SERVICE / PRO SET-UP — $145* + price of strings

• $145 for acoustic & electric guitars and basses, classical guitars, dobros etc.
• $180 for floating bridge systems (Floyd, Kahler, Evertune, etc)
• $180 for 12-string guitars

Deep cleaning fee ($20) applies to instruments with heavily soiled fingerboards.

Our Standard Service includes:

• Re-string with your preferred strings, to your desired tuning
• Fingerboard cleaned and condition
• Fret polish, spot levelled and reseated as required.
• Instrument cleaned and polish
• Nut slots optimised to Dan Erlewine spec
• Tuning machine maintenance (tightened, lubricated)
• Bridge/saddle radius adjustments as necessary
• Clean and lubricate electronics/reflow dry solder points
• Action to player's preference (if given, otherwise best practice is used)
• Intonation set correctly.

Guitars MUST be re-strung to be set up properly — we do not re-use or retain your strings. In the case of bass guitars, sure - we will keep your 50 year old vintage flats if you insist - but only if they've been strung correctly to begin with and can be safely re-used.



A note on "string buzz" — It is a factor in a setup, particularly with lighter strings. If you’re running 9 gauge strings, the wound strings will more than likely buzz when fretted. We will not let a guitar leave the workshop that is choking notes. Excess buzzing can be minimised but usually not eliminated entirely unless you like extremely high playing action.

Priority Servicing — Additional 50% of the total charge for a given service for urgent turnaround (weekdays only!). A re-fret will generally be 24 hours minimum when booked in as priority. Please avoid rush re-frets...

* Prices may vary slightly depending on age and condition of your instrument. If your request isn't listed, ask us about it (i.e. if your guitar is fretless and you want frets in it... why?)

NUT REPLACEMENT - $225 + Nut Blank

• Removal of existing nut
• Hand-carved bone* nut

* We use bone saddle blanks in the workshop - if you’d like an alternative material (i.e. synthetic bone, branded polymers etc.) there will be an extra charge.

A new nut cannot be correctly installed without a set up. If you just want a nut made without one, it is $80 but we strongly discourage this.

ELECTRONIC WORK — quoted on inspection, starting at $60 + parts

NECK RESET — Starting From $950

Service summary:

• Generally only performed on vintage acoustic guitars
• Includes neck removal, neck angle correction, reglue, complete setup and new bone saddle where required.
• Usually limited to major brands such as Martin, Gibson, Guild and Gretsch where the neck attachment scheme is workable *

A new saddle and setup is always required on flat top acoustic guitars after a reset which is included in the price. In some cases a re-fret is also highly recommended...

* Due to the manufacturing process of most modern and lower cost instruments, a neck reset is very difficult and often not possible. This is due to the use of epoxy (or other fast curing, brittle adhesives) to set the neck and which are not designed for removal. Polyurethane is also generally used as finish, which will tend to break away when the neck is heated off, leaving us with a thoroughly mutilated instrument that needs a re-finish. Neither we, nor you, will be happy with the result and therefore we'll not take it on.
