1974 Gibson SG Standard (USA, Cherry, HSC)

SOLD!

Description

This one nails that deeper, more saturated cherry that feels closer to a '60s Gibson than most of its mid-'70s siblings. No brown murk, no wine red—just rich, straight-up cherry with a touch of age that brings out the grain in all the right ways. It wears its history well: some honest wear around the edges, light buckle rash, and a lacquer-burnt headstock rear that tells you it’s been played, not babied. It has had the smallest of headstock fractures, that has been well repaired and is very hard to see..

Factory spec includes 'Tarback' humbuckers, harmonica bridge, block inlays on a bound rosewood board, and chrome hardware that’s lightly tarnished but stable. The neck is medium-chunky with a comfortable taper, right in that sweet spot for players who want some substance without the fight. Tuners are the standard Gibson-stamped Schallers of the era, working fine.

Nothing major changed, — just a vibey, light example of a transitional SG with strong bones and great colour. Includes a later hardcase that fits it snug and travels well.

This one won't last long.

Made in the USA. Serial: 396594.
