Description
An early 50s J-45 with plenty of history and visual depth. This guitar has seen real use over its life and wears it honestly. There are several cracks to the back, the largest professionally cleated, with the remainder stable and well settled.
The neck has had a reset in the past, so the geometry is good, and it has since received a refret along with a new bone nut and saddle. The machine heads have been replaced. The bridge plate is in notably good condition for a guitar of this age, which is always reassuring to see.
The Brazilian rosewood fingerboard is a standout. Dark, dense, and beautifully grained, it adds a lot visually and under the fingers. Tonally, this leans into the dry, woody side of the J-45 spectrum, with a slightly loose low end and a clear, forward midrange.
Not a museum piece, but a serious early Gibson with history, personality, and all the important structural work already addressed. A strong option if you’re after a real vintage J-45 that’s ready to be played without fuss.
Includes a TKL Hardcase.
