Description
A curious piece of Fender history. Here we have what was a plain-jane 1959 Fender Jazzmaster that was, to the eyes of the owner, perhaps looking a little dated by the mid-1960s. The guitar was sent back to Fender circa 1967 for a little bit of a facelift. Gone was the sunburst finish and on went a matching headstock Lake Placid Blue finish. While the instrument was at the factory, the pickguard and knobs were refreshed with the then-contemporary white plastics and the pickups too have seen a rewind. The wiring loom was kept in tact with pots dating to 1959. Original "Pat Pending" tremolo. Machine heads are also original to the late 1950s save for a couple of replacements which were swapped out for originals which have failed (but are included alongside the instrument for posterity).
A seriously unique Jazzmaster. The best of both worlds... the body contours and slab board neck of a late 1950s Jazzmaster with a funky mid 1960s colourway. Very cool look with a CBS era 'Black' logo on a small '50s era headstock. Plant this one in the 'find another' category. One of my favourite factory re-finishes I've seen. Oh, and how about that natural patina!
Includes a later Fender branded Jazzmaster case. Serial number 47433.
