Description
Wow... this is a very special guitar to see in the flesh! Seldom seen on Australian shores from the mid nineteen sixties we have a Rickenbacker 1997 Rose Morris model. The classic fireglo finish adorns a lovely plain top, “tweaked" true F shaped soundhole in place of the standard slash/cats eyes that exist on the standard US models…more on this a little later on below…
This one has a slim neck profile, and a great resonant tone unplugged! Plenty o' mojo. Pots date to October of 1965. The original capacitors present. The frets are low but have life left. The machine heads were replaced with 70's button style Grovers. The original toaster top pickup present in neck position, the bridge pickup position has been routed and replaced with a Dearmond humbucker. The tailpiece is a genuine Rickenbacker replacement, bought in the US, and fitted just before the guitar was retired. Commonly this model wouldve come with a vibrola ala 365.
This guitar has had the same owner since 1985 and was retired from the live stage in 1990. Since then the guitar has been safely tucked away in storage. A little backstory to these particular models: The Rose Morris company who were the distributor for Rickenbacker in the UK produced exclusive variations of the most popular Ric models that were sold only in the UK/Europe. The Rose Morris models command significantly higher prices than that of their US siblings. The 1997 is the UK version of the US 335 version.
An extremely cool piece indeed!
Made in USA serial EJ935. Comes with the original Silver / Blue lined Rickenbacker case.
