Description
1966 Goldentone Reverbmaster 2x12” Combo (most likely a model 1764, 40 watt version)
This amp is in very good condition and is mostly all original.
Based on transformer dates and the serial number, this amp was made in 1966.
The chassis does not have a model number stamped on it, however the circuit is consistent with the Reverbmaster 1764 (40 watt version).
The tremolo is optical (Fender style ‘roach’), and the reverb is driven by a dual pentode/triode 6GW8 valve. These features, and transformer and reverb tank specifications, are all correct for a mid-sixties model 1764.
Very recent service completed in May 2025, keeping the amp as close to original as possible.
It does have a new reverb transformer and tank, however the actual reverb circuit remains almost entirely original. A new mains power lead and footswitch cable, plus the addition of a mains fuse (T2A) inside the chassis to bring it up to 'safe specs'.
The original electrolytic filter capacitors test well (including low ESR), and so have not been replaced.
Here is some gobbledook for those that would like it.
