Yes indeed, the very rare, and so so cool, Gibson Bicentennial.
I know what you are thinking...the Bicentennial model came out in 1976..and you'd be right..however, this model ran from 1976-1978...so the one we have here is right at the end of the run. These were produced in pretty limited numbers, definitely NOT a guitar that you are going to see everyday.
I've always dug the Firebird emblem on the pickguard with the little '76 next to it, plus the red, white and blue colour scheme.
So, what we have here is a well played, used but not abused 'Bird. Pots have been updated, but the things you want to see, original tuners, pickguard (of course) and those kickass pickups are still in place.
The guitar has seen a recent refret, Gold hardware has tarnished..
Out on the road, this thing handles like a dream..start off slow, then kick the accelerator down, maybe pickup a slide...shoot, whatever you want, it's all here.. Classic slim neck near the nut, gets slightly fatter as you go up.
It's super exciting to have one of these in the shop..but I have to say, I'd love to see someone wringing the hell out of this thing on stage...it's too cool to be chained...
