1978 Gibson RD Artist Bass (USA, Black)

What we have here is a stunning example of the much-coveted Gibson RD Artist Bass.  Launched in 1977, originally designed as a signature model for none other than John Entwistle, these really are the pinnacle of Gibson 70's bass design, this thing really gives off Thunderbird on steroids.  These are becoming so so  hard to find and truly there is nothing else like it.  Gibson have attempted various reissues throughout the years, but none have even come close to recreating the feel and sound of the original.  

Ok time for the details!  Did I mention it's big?  5.3kg and 1.22m from root to tip this isn't for the faint of heart or sore of back, but sometimes that's just how it must be.  The original Moog preamp has been removed and replaced with a Bartolini 2 band EQ.  Neck is straight as an arrow and has been played just enough to make it feel like home.  Original pickups, original hardware and original vibes all complete, but the pots are a mismatch of new and old.  No major dents or cracks in the finish, just the standard scratches you get on a black instrument that has been played for decades.  At some point a sticker was added to the top wing of the bass and then removed, leaving a super faint outline you can see if you catch the light just right.  

This bass is a hammer not a scalpel, fills the stage both visually and audibly, absolutely no room for subtlety here.  If you are a fan of music where the bass functions as much as a percussive instrument as a melodic one, then there really isn't a better weapon to wield.  Please come and buy it before I start selling things.
