Description
A serious sleeper from the golden era of Japanese acoustic building. This is a 12-fret, slot-head D-28S inspired 12-string, built at a time when Japanese factories were still using very good timber and building guitars with real intent.
All solid construction throughout. The back and sides show dark, oily rosewood grain, with a closely matched headstock veneer, consistent with higher-grade material used in this period. Whatever the exact species (sides and headstock veneer have a grain pattern consistent with Brazillian, however we're going to call it old growth Indian) it sits well clear of later laminated work and firmly in that late 60s, early 70s window where these guitars were made properly.
Big, open 12-string voice with plenty of air and shimmer, but still controlled enough to strum without collapsing into wash. Lightly built and resonant, with a stable neck and a very natural, woody response that rewards time in the hands. 3 repaired top cracks present as stable.
Not a guitar you buy for the name on the headstock. Very much one you keep because it does the job honestly and well. A high-spec vintage Japanese acoustic with real character.
