Big body, bold look, and very much leaning into the Yamaha aesthetic of the era. The CJ-8XE sits in Yamaha’s higher-end Japanese acoustic lineup of the era and is well built, resonant and loud, with a clear top end and plenty of low-end push thanks to the jumbo format. It feels solid and confident in the hands, more workhorse than dainty vintage piece. Serial number 11103 places this one in the mid 1980s, during Yamaha’s strong MIJ acoustic period.
