Trade your guitar

Looking to trade your guitar or bass towards something in our store? Echo Tone Guitars welcomes trade-ins on vintage, second-hand and quality used instruments.

Trading is a straightforward alternative to selling privately, allowing you to put the value of your existing instrument towards something else in our inventory.

Bring your instrument into our Northcote showroom for an appraisal, or send us some photographs and details before making the trip. No appointment is necessary.

How are trade values determined?

Trade values are assessed individually and depend on several factors, including:

  • Make, model, age, condition and originality

  • Modifications, repairs and any servicing required

  • Current market demand and resale potential

  • Our existing inventory and whether the instrument is something we're actively looking to stock

  • The value and nature of the instrument you're looking to purchase

Trade values are not equivalent to retail or private-sale market prices. As a retailer, we need to account for servicing, preparation, warranty obligations, overheads and the time involved in finding a buyer.

We may offer more favourable trade values for instruments we're particularly interested in acquiring, or where the proposed trade makes commercial sense.

Trade-in terms & conditions

  • All trade-ins are subject to inspection, approval and an agreed valuation.

  • Estimates provided from photographs or descriptions are indicative only. Final offers are made following an in-hand inspection.

  • We reserve the right to decline any proposed trade at our discretion.

  • Trade values are offered as credit towards an agreed purchase and are not independently redeemable for cash.

  • Customers must be the legal owners of instruments offered for trade, or have the authority to sell them. Instruments must be free from undisclosed finance, security interests or third-party ownership claims.

  • Valid identification may be required in accordance with applicable second-hand dealer regulations.

  • Customers must disclose any known significant faults, repairs, modifications or other information that may materially affect the instrument's value.

  • Any difference between the agreed trade value and the purchase price must be paid at the time of the transaction, unless otherwise arranged.

  • Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any rights or remedies available under Australian Consumer Law or other applicable legislation.
