OOOOOO, a slice of electric guitar evolution! This is a stunning example of earlyish Gibson Electric Spanish guitars, and playability wise this might be the nicest I have ever played!
Introduced in 1955 alongside the ES-350T, the Gibson ES-225T enjoyed a brief production run until 1958 but has since earned a devoted following among players and collectors alike. Its distinctive combination of a Florentine cutaway, fully hollow thin-line body, and unique trapeze bridge/tailpiece design made it one of Gibson's most innovative electric guitars of the era.
Laminated maple body paired with a solid mahogany neck and Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. Ultra comfortable medium C profile with a 42mm nut width, single-ply binding, and traditional dot inlays.
The guitar has had a professional refret using vintage-correct narrow/tall fretwire, along with a replacement nut. The original tuners have been replaced with high-quality Gotoh SD90 nickel machine heads.
Electronics remain original, dog-ear P-90 pickup with its distinctive spacer mount. A vintage Bumblebee capacitor is fitted, while the pot codes are obscured, the solder joints and construction strongly suggest the electronics remain original.
The nickel hardware presents well, with the thumbwheels on the trapeze bridge having been replaced to allow easier adjustment of the action. The original laminated bevelled pickguard is still present, showing the expected warping that commonly accompanies vintage examples.
Honest wear and decades of natural ageing of the factory Sunburst finish have given this ES-225T the kind of character that simply can't be replicated, making it an exceptional player's vintage Gibson with all the charm and tone these early thin-line hollow bodies are celebrated for.
