Description
A short-lived budget banger from the Norlin era, the SG III was Gibson’s answer to the entry-level market in the early ’70s, these things remain a sleeper. With dual single-coil pickups that sound more like low-output P-90s than Strat types these great looking instrument cover a pretty massive spectrum of tonal ground.
Features include the original sunburst finish, bolt-on neck, simplified electronics (with two slider switches for pickup selection and tone cut), and the very Norlin-era plastic control plate. Pots date to the 2nd week of 1971 (137 71 02), aligning nicely with the serial range. Love it.
Comes with a period-correct hardcase. Serial number 171255.
