Description
This is a model I am particularily fond of, the SG Custom.
This one is from 1973.
Both guitar players in Alice Cooper played Gibson SG Customs, and raised hell doing it.
OK..so, before we go on..this guitar plays incredibly, and the intonation is spot on all the way up the fretboard....BUT, the neck has a very noticeable twist. I would recommend playing this on demo with your eyes closed, and tell me if it doesn't play in tune, but yeah, the twist is noticeable when you stare down the barrel.
If you couldn't give a damn, as long as the guitar plays in tune all the way up the neck, then read on.
Original tarbacks in place, original hardware, Brass nut in place of the original (increases sustain haha). Poker chip is a replacement. Pots date to 1976, with new soldering (we suspect replaced with decade correct pots)
Colour has aged to yellow, looks incredible in the flesh.
Serial dates with no measure of doubt to 1973.
The guitar is stamped SECOND. Why, who knows.
Interestingly, there was no option for white in an SG Custom in 1973, so I suspect that this was a custom order.
Still running the original frets, low and flat, but dressed (bear in mind Gibson frets at this time were low, flat and wide.
Neck is the classic slim taper.
Without a doubt, this is an absolute ripper of a guitar, just remember that you mostly use your ears to play music, and rely less on your eyes.

Or even a bottle of real cheap wine
