A sleeper with teeth. This 1979 Custom HD-28 is one of the most compelling post-war dreadnoughts Martin ever made — and remains one of the most undervalued. These were the first Martins since 1944 to feature true scalloped bracing, offering a livelier, more open response than anything else from the era. You get the full herringbone spec, aged spruce top with subtle bear claw figuring, Indian rosewood back and sides, and a soft V neck profile that feels old-world without being chunky.
This one’s a Custom order, with snowflake inlays instead of the standard dots — a rare aesthetic touch. Outfitted with a Barcus Berry pickup system, it’s also stage-ready. Playing well as-is, though a neck reset (or possibly refret) would bring it back to its full potential.
Includes original molded Martin hardcase, factory paperwork, warranty card, and serial documentation.
