Description

Handbuilt Japanese classical from Masaru Kohno’s Professional line. Light, responsive, and very even across the strings, with a quick attack and clear separation that suits both traditional repertoire and more modern playing. The build is tidy and restrained, with a French polished finish and a calm, composed feel in the hands. Solid spruce top paired with tight-grained rosewood back and sides. 650mm scale with a traditional 52mm nut, fan braced, and built to the standard Kohno was known for in this period. There is a fair case to believe we're talking CSA/ Brazilian rosewood here. This attribution reflects common materials used on Kohno Professional J guitars from this period and observed wood characteristics, as well as the gorgeous vanilla / caramel smell the timber has. Kohno guitars from this period are typically found in CSA rosewood, particularly for the top tier 'Professional J'; however as a dealer I always prefer to describe this conservatively. Neck geometry is acceptable, which is important given this guitar is built with a Spanish heel. One 11cm crack on the rear of the instrument from the heel (which is stable). None the less, a serious player’s instrument with a monster tone that is well settled in and sounding mature. Serial #NA0603. Includes the original hardcase.
