Froggy Bottom Model F-14, ordered in October of 2000 and shipped on June 2001. Not super well known in this country, but extremely well regarded in the USA.
With a solid Adirondack red spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides, this is a really special, handcrafted US made guitar, built in part by now retired luthier Michael Millard. Here is the lowdown from the Froggy Bottom site:
"The Froggy Bottom Model F14 is the 14-fret version of their Model F that was inspired by the 1960s era conversions of old Martin F-7 archtops into flat top guitars.
Adjustments in the body length and bridge placement to accommodate the extra frets allows this guitar to deliver a slightly more focused tone and projection, while preserving the complexity and balance of the F-12."
To order an F-14 today would cost you in the vicinity of $10000 USD, and they are built to order. This guitar has been lightly played, has an aftermarket pickup and at quarter of a century in, has matured into a beautiful sounding guitar.
A guitar that I highly recommend having a play of.
Here is what the previous owner said about this guitar.
"I live in Tokyo, and a few years ago I took a chance and ordered a guitar, sight unseen, by a famous maker. When I got it, I just couldn’t get on with it. I came to the conclusion I’d bought someone else’s dream guitar by mistake, because it certainly wasn’t mine. I took it to a store to sell it, and vowed I wouldn’t be tempted by anything I saw there that day. I’d bide my time and not make any more rash decisions.
However, sitting in the middle of the store was a used F model Froggy Bottom, the first time I’d ever seen one. I knew I wasn’t going to buy it, so I picked it up and played it.
After about 5 minutes, I realized that my dream guitar was right there in my hands."
Made in the USA.
