Early 80s Cat’s Eyes build from Tokai’s licensed Martin period, when they were producing some of the most accurate Pre-War style dreads outside the USA. Solid spruce top with Indian rosewood back and sides, scalloped X-bracing, herringbone purfling and the correct square Martin-style headstock with the torch inlay. Long-slotted ebony bridge and an ebony board with square-and-diamond inlays keep it very true to the blueprints they were copying at the time.
Big, open voice with plenty of projection and that woody, balanced thing these high-end Cat’s Eyes are known for. Clouding to the finish in spots but presents well overall. A proper Japanese-made Martin counterpart from a period where Tokai were taking the licence seriously and building them with intention.
