We've had a sudden uptick in the number of 60s JR3's passing across our desk, and this one is extremely good. A quick primer for the uninitiated: José Ramirez III (1922-1995) gained international fame in the 1960s through the hands of Andrés Segovia, and in turn Segovia's students. In 1965, José Ramirez III began developing a new instrument built with a top made of Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) and double sides (rosewood and cypress), his own revolutionary way of building guitars with an innovative approach to wood selection. Beautiful Brazilian rosewood back and sides, red cedar soundboard, ebony fingerboard. Loud, sonorous player full of rich complexity. Neck repolished at some stage, with Ramirez's well known fingerboard slant/lean corrected. Neck angle good! 12th fret playing action right on spec at 3mm bass side. An absolute joy to play a well kept JR3 such as this, and it'll make its new owner very very happy. Made in Spain, ano 66. No indication of makers mark/exact luthier in the maestro's studio involved in its production. Evidently they became frustrated with people requesting particular builders, or scorning guitars not built by their preferred hand, so instruments were often left "unsigned". This is one of them. Judge with your ears, not your eyes, I suppose. Comes in its original case with some paraphernalia about the auction/display it was featured in during a past life, and some documents of provenance.
